Very early morning on Smultrongrundet outside Hanko. Everyone is still asleep on their boats.
It is a perfect summer morning - on the horizon the line between sea and sky is blurred. A boat has passed in the fairway outside Smultron-grundet and the small swell is the only perceptible movement.
Perfect for a beautiful picture.
But what would it look like if the perfect were to be disturbed?
Turning on the ceiling lamp and kicking the developing machine during exposure creates dystopian light and movement.
Conscious action or mistake, it doesn't matter.
Everything comes to an end on a microcosmic level. Then the dust settles, the air clears and after a while nature regains ground - with or without humans.
The pictures were taken with a Hasselblad 503CX and 40 and 150 mm Zeiss optics. The film is Kodak Portra 400 and the pictures were developed on Fuji Crystal Archive Velvet (Deep Matte Velvet- DPVHLM) paper in the Värinäs laboratory.
The Värinä Cooperative (Vallgård, Helsinki) maintains Finland's only color darkroom where photographers can develop high-quality analog color photographs themselves. The Värinäs Colenta RA-4 developer develops images up to 80x80 centimeters. Unlike digital prints, all analog images are unique.
